AIR POWER!
Or should I say the future of Air Power. These young cadets of the Medical Lake High School's JROTC program demonstrated their skills during the Feb 2017 Drill Competition. They didn't just perform well. They were gracious hosts. 14 schools in all took part in the drill competition. "These schools weren't here when I was in school", said one MLHS JROTC parent. What was once a group of 5 schools has grown exponentially. The JROTC opportunities have skyrocketed around the state. With only two in the Spokane area, MLHS is proud to be the nearest to Fairchild Air Force Base and per another parent, "the best in the region". The cadets learn about leadership, character development, citizenship education and a demanding aerospace program. The size of the classes has been on a steady climb year to year. Drill competitions include Armed Drill Team, Color Guard, and Physical Training.
Now not all are expected to go on the be Airmen in the US Air Force. The values and lessons they learn from this experience will undoubtable help them throughout their lives; in the military or college or whatever may lie in front of them.
